CEF Ministry Blog

The Lord has opened the door for us to minister in the public schools here in Galesburg. 2010 was our first year in two schools. During 2010 we had many challenges with the school district. Once everything was settled we were able to minister to around a total of 50 children in the two schools. This year we were expecting the same, but the Lord had other ideas. We are presently ministering to over 100 children in the two schools! We had so many children that the principles had to move us to a bigger room! That is our great God. We truly are humbled with this ministry and thank Him for the opportunity that we can teach the children about the Good News!

On September 17 & 18, the State Director of CEF, Katrina Foresth, and the Western Central Illinois CEF Missionary Dawn Wassell gave an excellent training workshop at our church on Good News Clubs. As a church, we prayed about this new ministry and the response was overwhelming. It was so overwhelming that we as a church will be adopting two elementary schools in the area to begin ‘Good News Clubs.’ These Good News Clubs are an afterschool program sharing Christ with children. In these clubs we will be giving Bible lessons, telling Missionary stories, having the children memorize Bible verses, and singing and playing some games. In the training sessions, we learned how to use the wordless book, how to prepare Bible lessons, how to counsel children, and how to run a club. The sessions were great and they not only solidified teaching methods, but got the people excited about doing the clubs. Yes, we were overwhelmed, but the potential is great in reaching many young people that do not go anywhere to church and teaching them about Christ. Pray for us as we begin this new ministry the week of October 18, 2010.
